Consistency Changed More Than Any Perfect Plan
By Thomas | Reclaim Your Health
For a long time, I believed the lie that I had to do everything perfectly or it wasn’t worth doing at all. If I couldn’t follow the plan exactly, I’d quit — and then I’d feel ashamed.
That shame would push me back into the same habits. And the cycle would repeat: try hard → slip up → quit → feel worse → start again later.
Looking back, I can see it clearly now: perfection wasn’t helping me. It was keeping me stuck. And honestly, I believe God used those hard seasons to teach me something simple: keep going, even when it’s messy.
The All-or-Nothing Trap
“All-or-nothing” sounds like motivation, but it’s usually a setup. Because real life is not controlled. You’ll have stress, tired days, family stuff, cravings, setbacks.
If your plan only works when life is perfect, your plan won’t work.
What Actually Helped Me
The change wasn’t a new diet. It was a new approach: small steps I could repeat.
- I focused on one habit at a time.
- I stopped “punishing” myself for imperfect days.
- I learned to reset fast instead of quitting for weeks.
- I measured progress in weeks and months, not days.
Over time, those small choices started stacking up. My blood sugar improved. My weight moved. Not because I became perfect — but because I became consistent.
A Simple Way to Think About It
Perfection asks: “Can I do this flawlessly?” Consistency asks: “Can I do the next right step today?”
I’ve prayed that God would help me choose the next right step — especially on the days I didn’t feel strong. And that kind of steady strength is what created real change.
If You’re Stuck in the Cycle
If you’ve been starting over again and again, you’re not broken. You’re human. And you can rebuild.
Start small. Start gentle. And don’t quit when it isn’t perfect.
